DBKL Sets Up Portal For Public To Strengthen Transparency In City's Urban Planning Process
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has opened a One Stop Centre (OSC) Portal to the public as a measure to strengthen transparency and accountability in the city's urban planning process.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territory) Hannah Yeoh said that through public access to the portal, the community can now obtain information regarding development applications in their respective areas and verify whether a project has received the proper approvals from the relevant authorities.
“To protect the rights of landowners and applicants, a special public access space has been created within the OSC Portal. Only non-confidential and relevant planning information will be displayed for public viewing. Personal and confidential information, such as detailed building plans and documents constituting the proprietary rights of landowners, will continue to be protected,” she said in a statement today.
She added that opening this access is expected to increase public confidence in the planning and development process, in addition to ensuring that all development activities are carried out in an orderly manner, complying with regulations, and remaining accountable.
Hannah added that an open approach to urban planning has long been a standard practice in developed nations, where access to basic planning information is recognised as a public right rather than information that needs to be kept secret.
“This reform has long been championed by Members of Parliament, civil society coalitions, and residents' associations in Kuala Lumpur, and today it has been realised.
“I express my appreciation to the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Seri Fadlun Mak Ujud, for facilitating this reform swiftly. This city belongs to its people, and every stakeholder plays a role in shaping the future of Kuala Lumpur,” she said.
