KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- Malaysian band Cherpen continues to strengthen its position in the local music scene with the release of its latest single ‘Patah Hati’, a collaboration with rapper Chubb-E.

In a statement issued by their recording label Seventeen Eleven Music, the group’s vocalist Nemo said the reggae-infused track reflects the group’s artistic maturity. The song was co-composed by Nemo and fellow band members Kimie and Syahir, with the lyrics penned by Nemo, Kimie and Chubb-E.

“We came up with the idea of collaborating (with Chubb-E) during the initial stages of working on ‘Patah Hati’. At first, we casually added a rap section, then we thought of bringing in a rapper. We eventually connected with Chubb-E and immediately felt the chemistry,” said Nemo.

He added that the song centres on the theme of heartbreak, a reality many can relate to.

“The most important message of this song is to appreciate the person who loves you sincerely,” he said, adding that the reggae sound marks a departure from Cherpen’s earlier works, which are more closely associated with ballads and slower-tempo songs.

Among Cherpen’s songs that have previously received positive response are ‘Pasti’, ‘Lepaskan’ and ‘Kali Ini’, and the shift in musical direction is part of the band’s effort to offer something fresh to their fans.

Meanwhile, Chubb-E described the opportunity to collaborate with Cherpen as a meaningful experience in his career.

“When Cherpen reached out to me and shared the demo, I was immediately drawn to the song’s vibe. It’s not just about heartbreak but also about valuing someone who truly loves you. The recording process was smooth and filled with ideas,” he said.

‘Patah Hati’ is available on all major music streaming platforms, while its official music video can be viewed on the Seventeen Eleven Music YouTube channel.
