SHAH ALAM, Feb 5 (Bernama) -- Nearly 84 per cent of the Kuala Langat Selatan Forest Reserve fire in Banting has been extinguished, leaving 3.64 hectares still burning two days after the blaze broke out.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) operations officer Hamdan Hamzah said that, in collaboration with various agencies, they have extinguished the fire across 19.02 hectares so far, with today’s firefighting efforts divided into three sectors.

A total of 22.66 hectares were affected by the fire, which broke out around midday last Tuesday.

“The fire is still active, and there are small hotspots, but they do not affect nearby settlements or the nearby Water Treatment Plant.

“Today’s operation involved Strike Team A carrying out firefighting using Wajax hose lines from open water sources in Sector A, Strike Team B conducting suppression in Sector B, while Strike Team C monitored and extinguished fire using fire beaters in Sector C,” he said in a statement today.

Hamdan said the operation, which entered its third day today, involves 35 officers and personnel from various related agencies.
