KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 3 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia stayed higher at mid-morning, supported by buying in selected heavyweights, led by financial services as well as telecommunications and media counters.
Maybank added 10 sen to RM11.90, Public Bank gained 5.0 sen to RM4.92, and Telekom Malaysia put on 20 sen to RM8.10. These counters lifted the composite index by a combined 5.13 points.
At 11 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose by 1.94 points to 1,742.82. It had opened 15.21 points higher at 1,756.09, compared with last Friday’s close of 1,740.88.
However, on the broader market, losers led gainers 549 to 358, while 504 counters were unchanged, 1,217 counters were untraded and 62 were suspended.
Market turnover stood at 1.41 billion shares valued at RM1.07 billion.
Among heavyweights, Axiata gained 8.0 sen to RM2.38, Maxis rose 6.0 sen to RM3.88 and MISC expanded 10 sen to RM8.10, while Gamuda went down 30 sen to RM4.12, and Hong Leong Bank eased 60 sen to RM25.20.
Top gainers included Nestle, which advanced RM1.50 to RM113.50, while Malaysian Pacific Industries was 66 sen firmer at RM32.66, Ajinomoto expanded 28 sen to RM13.92, Dutch Lady Milk Industries gained 22 sen to RM33.22, and Petronas Gas went up 22 sen to RM18.60.
As for the leading decliners, Fraser & Neave fell RM1.28 sen to RM34.48, PPB Group slipped 28 sen to RM11.02, Tradeplus shrank 39 sen to RM5.81, United Plantations was 54 sen lower at RM29.70 and Petronas Dagangan slid 42 sen to RM20.78.
On the index board, the FBM Top 100 Index rose 3.50 points to 12,565.52, the FBM Emas Index inched down 0.40 of a point to 12,745.59, the FBM Emas Shariah Index fell 10.05 points to 12,265.27, the FBM ACE Index slipped 20.94 points to 4,702.06, and the FBM Mid 70 Index declined 42.50 points to 17,467.08.
Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index gave up 15.72 points to 21,494.46, the Plantation Index added 13.32 points to 8,377.88, the Energy Index fell 6.31 points to 752.62, and the Industrial Products and Services Index edged down 0.17 of-a-point to 175.39.
