Venezuela Exports 1st Lpg Shipment As Chrysopigi Lady Sets Sail For Global Markets

BOGOTA, Feb 2 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- Venezuela officially launched its first shipment of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for export Sunday, with acting President Delcy Rodriguez announcing the departure of the vessel Chrysopigi Lady, Anadolu Ajansi reported.

The tanker, which set sail from the Anzoátegui coast, carried Venezuela’s first-ever shipment of LPG destined for international markets.

“Proud to share this moment,” Rodriguez said during a celebratory address. “Together with the working class, we mark this historic milestone by exporting the country’s first molecule of gas—an achievement dedicated to the well-being of our people.”

The export follows the unanimous approval of a landmark reform of the Organic Law on Hydrocarbons by the National Assembly last Thursday.

The legislation, a cornerstone of Rodriguez’s economic recovery plan, aims to modernise the industry and attract foreign capital.

By allowing for significant private sector expansion, companies are now permitted to participate directly in every stage of the process, including exploration, extraction, collection and storage. To reassure global investors, the reform implements robust legal protections by authorising international mediation and arbitration to resolve project disputes, bypassing the local judicial system.

Private producers are granted unprecedented operational autonomy to manage assets efficiently without the rigid state control formerly exercised by state-owned oil and natural gas company Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA).

The gas export occurred almost one month after US special forces executed Operation Absolute Resolve, resulting in the capture of former President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.

The Trump administration has played a central role in the industry’s shift. The US Treasury Department has partially lifted sanctions to facilitate trade between American companies and the new Venezuelan administration, and Washington and Caracas finalised a half-billion-dollar deal to stabilise and modernise sector operations.

While Venezuela has historically relied on crude oil, the addition of LPG to its export portfolio signals a strategic diversification.
