SEREMBAN, Feb 1 (Bernama) -- A couple’s 10-year wait to welcome their first child ended in joy when their baby was safely delivered through in vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment sponsored by the Tunku Azizah Fertility Foundation (TAFF).
Zahidah Zainudin, 33, said the birth of her son, Sayf Al Ayubbi, three days ago at Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital (HTJ), brought renewed happiness and meaning to her life and that of her husband, Salahuddin Alaayubi Nawawi, 41.
She said she had applied for TAFF assistance for five years before receiving a call to undergo IVF treatment in April last year, finally realising her dream of becoming a mother.
“Alhamdulillah, after the pregnancy was confirmed, everything went smoothly. I only experienced severe allergies during the first trimester, and my husband was always by my side, giving me strength and support.
“Before this, we tried many methods but had no success. I am deeply grateful that our dream of having a child has finally come true,” she told reporters at Ward 4A Kenanga, Women and Children’s Building, HTJ here today.
Earlier, Tengku Ampuan of Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, visited the mother and newborn at the hospital.
When met by reporters, Her Royal Highness expressed gratitude for the birth of the 151st TAFF baby and said eight more couples are currently awaiting the arrival of their children.
“Alhamdulillah, I have many grandchildren now, and I am thankful that Allah has given me the opportunity to help these couples. Many kind individuals have also contributed financially, so their support can be channelled to couples in need who are facing similar struggles.
“TAFF is now 20 years old and remains committed to helping all couples, regardless of race, who long to have children,” Tunku Azizah said.
Tunku Azizah spent nearly an hour visiting the mother and baby, sharing advice on infant care and postnatal practices.
Her Majesty also took time to interact with other mothers in the ward as well as hospital healthcare workers.
