DUNGUN, Jan 31 (Bernama) -- Police detained 157 motorcyclists for allegedly being involved in dangerous riding activities during Ops Samseng Jalanan conducted here yesterday.

Dungun district police chief Supt Maizura Abdul Kadir said the two-hour operation, which began at 6 pm, was carried out along Jalan Batu 49 to the Alur Tempoyak traffic lights, as well as Jalan Lapangan Terbang Sura Hujung.

She said the action was taken following complaints from local residents and intelligence gathered by police on the motorcyclists involved.

“All motorcycles detained were taken to the district police headquarters for further investigation,” she said in a statement today.

She added that through the same operation, 259 summonses were issued to motorcyclists aged between 15 and 30 for various traffic offences.

“Among the offences were riding without a valid driving licence, expired road tax, illegal modification of vehicle structure and noisy exhausts. Motorcycles detained for illegal structural modifications will be impounded until the owners restore the altered components to their original condition,” she said.
