Delayed Perak Youth Centre Moves Toward Implementation, To Complete In Two Years

IPOH, Jan 28 (Bernama) -- The long-delayed Perak Youth Centre project has entered the pre-implementation stage, with the tender process expected to be opened later this year.

Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari said construction of the centre, to be built on a 2.8-hectare site, will be funded with a newly approved allocation of RM15 million and is expected to be completed within two years.

“I hope the implementation will proceed smoothly and according to the timeline that has been set,” he said after inspecting the project site in Tambun today.

In 2022, then Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu announced the project with an allocation of RM45 million and an expected completion date of 2025.

Addressing the reduction in funding, Mohammed Taufiq said the RM15 million allocation was the result of a reassessment, adding that the savings were in line with the revised project structure.

He said earlier delays were caused by procurement issues, land-related matters and technical problems.

“Insya-Allah, I will ensure that procurement, land and other outstanding issues are resolved promptly so construction will not be delayed again,” he said.

Once completed, the centre is expected to serve as a key platform for youth in Perak to gather, engage in recreational activities and participate in meaningful programmes, he added.
