Queen Lauds Success Of Girl Guides Malaysia

JITRA, Jan 25 (Bernama) -- Her Majesty, Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia has commended the various achievements attained by Girl Guides Association of Malaysia (GGAM) throughout its 109 years of establishment.

As the Royal Patron of GGAM, Her Majesty said that she was very proud of the association's steadfast spirit, commitment and outstanding achievements in various programmes including at the global level.

“I was informed that various extraordinary achievements have been accomplished throughout GGAM’s 109-year history last year, including the Jade Camp Programme, which was held for the first time on a large scale at Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), involving the participation of 1,000 girls and leaders.

“More importantly, this programme also involves the B40 group and the Orang Asli community, thus reflecting the commitment of GGAM leadership in ensuring inclusivity and unity among members,” said Her Majesty.

The Queen said this in conjunction with GGAM World Thinking Day 2026 - Our Friendship celebration held at Dewan Wawasan here, today.

Raja Zarith Sofiah also said that the International Day of the Girl (IDG) programme themed Girls’ Advocacy Circles: Empowering Girls’ Voices, involved more than 2,000 participants focusing on digital safety, anti-bullying, mental health and underage marriage, has helped increase awareness and education among participants.

“Turning 110, GGAM continues to be committed and dedicated to empowering girls to become knowledgeable, competent and moral citizens,” said Her Majesty.

Meanwhile, GGAM president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail in her speech said that the current generation needs to think globally and hold fast to universal human values ​​centred on the Rukun Negara.

She said that every GGAM member also needs to appreciate positive relationships that provide benefits, especially in the context of family integrity, inclusiveness and racial and ethnic unity in the country.

“As our country has a diversity of races and religions, unity is very important and we need to stand strong together, divided we fall,” she said.

Also present were Kedah Raja Puan Muda Che Puan Muda Zaheeda Mohamad Ariff and the Chief Commissioner of the Girl Guides Association of Malaysia Datuk Yeoh Soo Keng.
