Ban On Sale Of Single Use Plastic Bag In Perak

24/01/2026 06:27 PM

IPOH, Jan 24 (Bernama) -- The Perak government will take strict action against business operators found selling single-use plastic bags once the ban comes into effect on March 1.

State Science, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman Teh Kok Lim said a six-month trial period would be given to allow operators to adjust before local authorities (PBT) begin enforcement.

“Once the directive is finalised, traders are prohibited from selling single-use plastic bags. If necessary, they should offer recycled bags instead. This is a necessary step to ensure environmental sustainability and reduce plastic pollution,” he said when announcing the ban at Aeon Big Falim here today.

On March 20 last year, the state government announced that the full ban across Perak, initially scheduled for January this year, was postponed to March 1to give the public more time to prepare.
