PORT KLANG, Jan 22 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) is completing the intake procedure for 200 former military personnel to strengthen the agency's role in empowering the country's border control.

AKPS director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain described the move as a strategic effort to ensure the intake of military veterans is carried out in an organised manner and free of any issues that may arise in the future.

"We are in the process of completing the recruitment procedures so that there will be no issue arising from the recruitment of these veterans," he told a press conference at West Port here today.

He said the process is being thoroughly implemented to ensure all aspects of administration, staffing and guideline compliance are met before the official intake.

He added that the intake of former military personnel is expected to add value to the AKPS, especially in terms of discipline, operational experience and tactical capability, at the country's entry points.

"Filling the positions will help strengthen the operational capacity of AKPS. I have also applied for additional positions for the Port Klang AKPS.

"We are working hard on staffing, and leave it to the parties responsible. As for the total intake, I can't divulge it for now,” he said.

He added that the AKPS is also focusing on enhancing its existing human resources to continuously improve its operational efficiency.

Earlier, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the Public Service Department (JPA) had approved 200 positions for the recruitment of former military personnel for the AKPS during the oral question-and-answer session in Parliament.
