JOHOR BAHRU, Jan 21 (Bernama) --  The Johor state government is committed to improving education through the Sekolah Rintis Bangsa Johor (SRBJ) initiative, demonstrating that daily schools can achieve excellence with proper planning and focused execution.

Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the SRBJ initiative is proof of the state government's dedication to ensuring that every student can enjoy quality education, making Johor a leader in high-standard daily school education.

“SRBJ is not just a model school, but a new benchmark for education in the state. The state government remains committed to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to receive holistic, quality, and world-class education,” he said in a Facebook post.

The SRBJ initiative emphasises the mastery of the English language without neglecting the Malay language, strengthening skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), character development, and employability.

It also includes competency assessments that align with international standards, in line with the Ministry of Education’s policies.

Four schools have been selected to become SRBJs starting in the 2025/2026 school session - Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Seri Kota Puteri 2 and Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Seri Kota Puteri 4 in Pasir Gudang, as well as SMK Tasek Utara and SK Tasek Utara in Johor Bahru, in collaboration with the Johor State Education Department.

This initiative is the brainchild of the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, who graciously visited Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tasek Utara to observe the initial implementation of the programme.

During the visit, Tunku Ismail also had the opportunity to inspect key facilities that have been upgraded, including pilot classrooms, science laboratories, resource centres, and exploration rooms.

Onn Hafiz added that the SRBJ project involves a total allocation of RM54 million, with RM31.22 million allocated for Phase One and RM22.78 million for Phase Two, covering infrastructure upgrades and the implementation of high-impact educational modules.
