KOTA KINABALU, Jan 20 (Bernama) -- Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) assistance continues to provide relief to Malaysians, particularly the B40 group.

Housewife Zaliha Jaafar, 51, said the financial assistance helped cover daily expenses, including the purchase of bottled water during water supply disruptions in her neighbourhood.

The grandmother of eight, from Taman Keramat, Putatan, said frequent water supply disruptions had incurred additional expenses for her family.

“I hope the assistance can be continued, especially for the B40 group who are in need,” she told Bernama when met here today.

Government retiree Maah Mahali Hussin, 74, said STR had also helped ease his daily expenses, particularly in purchasing the basic necessities.

He said the assistance is greatly appreciated and reflects the government’s concern for the people’s welfare.

Another recipient, Ashari Puteh, 69, said STR has helped reduce his family’s financial burden, especially in purchasing groceries and essential items.

The father of three said STR was also used to buy bottled water and other necessities required by the family.

“I hope it will be continued and the amount increased, if possible,” he said after purchasing groceries at a supermarket here.

A total of RM1.1 billion has been allocated for Phase 1 of the STR disbursement for 2026, benefitting 3.7 million households and 1.3 million senior citizens without spouses, with payments ranging from RM100 to RM500 depending on eligibility.
