KINABATANGAN, Jan 20 (Bernama) -- A total of 157 police personnel have cast their ballots in early voting for the Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election as of noon today, giving a voter turnout of 83.07 per cent.

According to the Election Commission (EC), for the Lamag state by-election, 147 police personnel, or 78.19 per cent, have cast their votes during the same period.

The early voting, being held at Kinabatangan District Police Headquarters, involves 196 police personnel, of whom 189 were voting in person and the rest by post.

The Kinabatangan by-election features a three-cornered contest involving Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar representing Barisan Nasional (BN), Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman (Warisan) and Goldam Hamid (Independent), while the Lamag seat sees a straight fight between Mohd Ismail Ayob (BN) and Mazliwati Abdul Malek (Warisan).

The by-elections were called following the death of the incumbent, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, 66, on Dec 5 last year.

The Kinabatangan constituency covers three state seats — Sukau, Lamag and Kuamut — with a total of 48,722 registered voters, while the Lamag constituency has 13,899 electors.

Polling for both by-elections is this Saturday.
