HAWANA 2025 Roadshow With Polytechnic Students Concludes At PIS Johor

JOHOR BAHRU, Jan 20 (Bernama) -- The 2025 National Journalists' Day (HAWANA 2025) Roadshow with Polytechnic Students concluded today in Johor Darul Ta'zim, at Ibrahim Sultan Polytechnic (PIS) in Pasir Gudang.

The closing ceremony was officiated by Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) and Chairperson of the HAWANA 2026 Working Committee. The event was attended by over 500 students and lecturers from polytechnics and community colleges.

This programme aims to enhance media literacy and digital understanding among students at Public Higher Education Institutions (IPTAs), in line with the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen digital resilience and critical thinking among the youth.

Also present were Polytechnic and Community College Education Department Director (Student Recruitment and Development) Azirin Abdul Aziz and Bernama’s Editor-in-Chief and HAWANA 2026 Deputy Chairperson Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.

PIS Deputy Director (Academics) Tengku Nadzion Tengku Ibrahim, as well as Bernama’s Acting Deputy Editor-in-Chief (News Services) and HAWANA 2026 Project Director Mohd Shukri Ishak, were also in attendance.

The programme, organised by Bernama as the HAWANA Secretariat, in collaboration with PIS and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), followed the launch event held at Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Polytechnic in Shah Alam on Aug 14 last year.

Bernama acted as the implementing agency on behalf of the Ministry of Communications. The programme featured sessions on Mobile Journalism (MoJo) Fact-Checking by Bernama and the Safe Internet Campaign by MCMC.

The MoJo session was led by Bernama's Digital Media Desk news officer, K. Vishpani, and visual editor Nursyafiqah Izzati Haspawari, while the fact-checking session was conducted by  MyCheck Desk chief Fatin Najmi Mohammad Shah.

The Safe Internet Campaign, aimed at raising awareness about cybersecurity and promoting ethical internet use, was presented by Johor MCMC assistant director Ezwan Harris Abu Nashrah,

During the event, Nur-ul Afida also presented smart televisions to six institutions, including PIS, Mersing Johor Polytechnic, Tun Syed Nasir Syed Ismail Polytechnic, METrO Johor Bahru Polytechnic, Segamat Community College, and Johor Skills Development Centre.

The HAWANA Roadshow with Students programme builds on the success of the 2024 edition, which attracted some 2,000 students and lecturers from 16 public universities, with 17 contributions made to selected universities.
