Bernama CEO, RTM Director-general Appointed To Malaysian Media Council Board

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 19 (Bernama) -- Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin and Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) director-general Datuk Suhaimi Sulaiman have been appointed as government representatives in the board of the Malaysian Media Council.

The council announced that the appointments were made by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil on Jan 14, in line with Section 8(1)(b) of the Malaysian Media Council Act 2025.

“The council board welcomes the appointments. Datuk Suhaimi has extensive experience in the broadcasting and journalism fields with leadership experience spanning both private and public media sectors.

“Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida is experienced in managing new organisations and media administration at the national level with extensive involvement in the national mainstream media ecosystem,” the council said in a statement today.

The council said the appointment of the two government representatives means that 20 out of 21 positions on the council’s board have been filled while the council chairman’s position has yet to be filled, and nominations for the post were still open.

Besides the two government representatives, the council board has four members representing media companies, four members from media practitioners and four members representing public interests, including academics and civil society.

“Six other members have been appointed under Section 8(1)(f) of the Malaysian Media Council Act 2025 to ensure gender equality, regional balance, and diversity in media in terms of language and format,” the council said.

The council board members have been selected since November last year and will serve for a period of two years while the council is still waiting for government allocations to form a secretariat and carry out its functions and mandate.
