LOS ANGELES, Jan 17 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- The Chinese Consulate General in Chicago issued a notice on Friday, urging Chinese nationals in the US state of Minnesota to increase safety awareness and take precautionary measures, reported Xinhua.

"Law enforcement operations are being carried out in multiple areas of Minnesota," the notice said, reminding Chinese nationals to "closely follow official announcements and media reports, carry valid identification documents at all times, remain vigilant, enhance personal safety awareness, stay away from gatherings, crowded areas or neighbourhoods with poor public security, and avoid travelling at night or alone."

On January 7, a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent killed a 37-year-old American woman, Renee Nicole Good, during an operation targeting undocumented immigrants in Minneapolis, the largest city in Minnesota. The fatal shooting has heightened tensions in the city and led to widespread protests across the country.

As protests continued in Minneapolis on Friday, US President Donald Trump said local authorities had "totally lost control", suggesting that he might be "forced to act".
