KPT Monitors Progress Of RM39 Million Dormitory Block Project At Sandakan Polytechnic

SANDAKAN, Jan 12 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) is closely monitoring the construction of two new dormitory blocks at Sandakan Sabah Polytechnic (PSS), valued at RM39 million, to ensure the project is completed as scheduled in September 2027.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, said the project, which involves the construction of separate dormitories for male and female students, will increase accommodation capacity by 700 students and address the current shortage of on-campus housing at the institution.

He said construction progress currently stands at 12 per cent, despite a slight delay of about 20 days due to adverse weather conditions.

“Overall, we find that the progress of the project is at a satisfactory level, despite the minor delay caused by rainfall.

“However, we want to ensure that the project is not affected by any other technical issues,” he told reporters after inspecting the project site here today.

Also present were KPT Secretary-General Datuk Dr Anesee Ibrahim and Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin.

Meanwhile, Zambry said the ministry has also taken steps to address ageing infrastructure at the 17-year-old polytechnic, particularly issues related to plumbing and water pressure systems, to ensure facilities function optimally once the new dormitories are completed.

He added that the project’s progress will continue to be closely monitored by both the polytechnic’s monitoring unit and the ministry to ensure construction proceeds according to schedule.
