Indonesia Temporarily Blocks Access To Grok Over Ai-generated Deepfake Concerns

10/01/2026 08:54 PM

JAKARTA, Jan 10 (Bernama) -- Indonesia has temporarily blocked access to Grok amid concerns that AI-generated pornographic and deepfake content could pose risks to public safety.

Communications and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid said the move aims to protect women, children and the public from AI-generated fake pornographic content.

She said the government considers non-consensual sexual deepfakes to be serious violations of human rights, human dignity and the safety of citizens in digital space.

“The Ministry of Communication and Digital has also requested that Platform X promptly provide clarification on the negative impacts arising from the use of Grok,” she said in a statement on Saturday.

Grok, a generative AI system integrated with platform X, is owned and developed by xAI, which was founded by Elon Musk in 2023.
