JOHOR BAHRU, Jan 7 (Bernama) -- UDA Holdings Berhad (UDA) continues to strengthen its corporate social responsibility (CSR) commitment through the distribution of zakat wakalah amounting to RM60,000 to assist 200 asnaf students with essential school supplies.
UDA acting president and chief executive officer Azrudyn Rashid said the contribution, channelled via the UDA Cares: Educational Back to School 2026 initiative, held at Angsana Johor Bahru Mall, here today.
He said each student received an allocation of RM300, in addition to donations of school bags, stationery, colour pencils and water bottles, providing comprehensive support for their learning needs.
According to him, the annual initiative helps to ease the financial burden of underprivileged families and ensures that students from the asnaf group are better prepared and more confident at the start of the school session.
“This initiative is not only aimed at easing the financial burden on families of underprivileged students, but also seeks to instil motivation and confidence among the students as they face the new school session with enthusiasm and determination,” he said when met at the programme here today.
Representing the programme were UDA Land South Sdn Bhd chief operating officer Muhammad Ismail Dasuki, UDA Group Corporate Communications Division head Radziah Mohamed Fadzil, and UDA Angsana Sdn Bhd chief operating officer Imran Salleh.
Azrudyn said the programme reflected UDA’s continued commitment to supporting the local community, particularly the Bumiputera community in areas where the company operates and undertakes development projects.
He said the initiative was aligned with UDA’s CSR implementation, which emphasises social development and community well-being as key pillars of the company’s sustainability agenda.
Meanwhile, Imran said the recipients comprised selected students from 10 primary schools located around UDA’s development areas.
The schools involved were Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sungai Danga; SK Kompleks UDA; SK UDA 2; SK Kampung Pasir; SK Pengkalan Rinting; SK Tasek Utara; SK Taman Cempaka; SK Seri Kenanga; SK Seri Melati and SK Perumahan Tampoi 2.
“The selection of students is carried out by the schools themselves, and we hope that the assistance provided can help ease the financial burden on parents,” he said.
Meanwhile, single mother Roslina Sabri, 44, said the assistance would help reduce the cost of school preparations for her three children, all of whom are still in primary school.
“I have to allocate at least RM1,000 for each child, which includes school supplies, fees and other expenses,” said Roslina, a mother of six whose husband died of a stroke in March last year.
Roslina, who works in the meeting management department of a local authority, also praised UDA’s continuous efforts in assisting middle- and low-income families in meeting their children’s educational needs.
“I hope initiatives like this will continue so that more people can benefit,” she said.
