DAMASCUS, Jan 3 (Bernama-SANA) -- First Vice Governor of the Central Bank of Syria (CBS), Mokhles al-Nazer, announced on Saturday the official trading of the Syrian new banknotes following months of continuous and diligent preparations, Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported.
Since early morning, representatives of private banks and exchange companies have been flocking to the Central Bank branches in the provinces to receive the new Syrian pound,” Al-Nazer said in a post on X platform.
The CBS on Friday called for adherence to the instructions regarding maintaining the integrity, quality and appearance of Syrian banknotes, considering them public funds and a symbol of national sovereignty through regulating their use and circulation.
President Ahmad al-Sharaa officially launched the new national currency last Monday at the Conferences’ Palace in Damascus.
