SHAH ALAM, Dec 29 (Bernama) -- The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, urges a comprehensive approach to the long-standing flood problem, with a clear target of achieving zero flood.
“Seek the best expertise, whether from within or outside the country. Use knowledge, technology and experience. Do not continue to hide behind excuses, because the suffering of the people cannot be treated as the price to be paid for failures in planning.
“I am aware that we are unable to prevent storms, typhoons, heavy rain or natural disasters, which are acts of God. However, I am confident that floods can be overcome if there is a sound system, long-term planning, and honest and disciplined implementation,” he said in his 2026 New Year message.
Sultan Sharafuddin also reminded those entrusted with power and responsibility, particularly political leaders in Selangor, to stop talking about politics and focus fully on efforts to resolve the people’s problems.
His Royal Highness stressed that all planning and actions must be guided by a single primary objective, namely the prosperity of the people and the stability of the state.
“I wish to remind you to stop talking about politics and focus on working to solve the people’s problems, especially with a general election approaching.
“Channel all energy and thought towards building tangible development so that the people can live more comfortably, have their welfare safeguarded and feel protected by a fair and effective system. Remember, nothing is impossible if the intention is sincere and the effort is earnest,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Sultan and the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, conveyed their New Year 2026 greetings to all the people, regardless of race, religion or background.
Sultan Sharafuddin expressed hope that 2026 would bring greater prosperity to the people of Selangor and inspire them to become better individuals, with stronger values and greater contributions to their families, society and the state.
“May Allah SWT bless this state and all my people. Happy New Year 2026,” he added.
