KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 28 (Bernama) -- Several main roads in Bukit Bintang will be temporarily closed on Jan 1 and 3 to facilitate the “I LITE U” Festival, the opening event for Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2026.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said a full rehearsal will take place on Jan 1 from 6 pm until completion, requiring the complete closure of Jalan Bukit Bintang from Pavilion Kuala Lumpur to Federal Hotel.

He said the official event will be held on Jan 3 from 7.30 pm to 10 pm and will also require a full road closure.

“The event includes two main components, namely the opening ceremony held inside Pavilion Kuala Lumpur and a launch ceremony featuring a ‘Cultural Parade’  along Jalan Bukit Bintang,” he said in a statement today.

He added that 20 contingents, including seven marching bands, will participate in the parade, which will proceed from Pavilion to the front of Federal Hotel, covering 900 metres to the intersection of Jalan Bukit Bintang and Jalan Sultan Ismail.

“Pavilion management and the organiser will provide special parking stickers for VIP and VVIP vehicles, while road closures will be managed by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL),” Mohd Zamzuri said.

He added that for further information on road closures, DBKL or the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT), the event organiser can be contacted.

Meanwhile, DBKL, in a Facebook post yesterday, said road closure for the “I LITE U” Festival will affect Jalan Bukit Bintang and Jalan Sultan Ismail on Jan 1 from 6 pm to 11 pm and on Jan 3 from 6 pm to 12 midnight.

Additionally, Jalan Bukit Bintang will be fully closed for the New Year’s Eve 2026 celebration from 5 pm on Dec 31 until 2 am on Jan 1, 2026.

Yesterday, KPKT Minister Nga Kor Ming said that Bukit Bintang will offer a spectacular experience on Jan 3 with the launch of “I LITE U”, officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and attended by Oscar-winning actress Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh.
