Two Indonesian Maids Rescued From Exploitation

SHAH ALAM, Dec 20 (Bernama) -- Police rescued two Indonesian domestic helpers believed to be victims of forced labour exploitation by a businesswoman and her daughter in a raid on a house in Kayangan Heights here two days ago.

Shah Alam police chief ACP Ramsay Embol said based on the statements of the victims, aged 48 and 33, their mobile phones were confiscated, they were forced to work overtime, frequently beaten, with salaries unpaid for the past two months.

“One had been working for two years and the other for a month,” he said in a statement today.

Ramsay said in the raid at about 2.30 pm, police also arrested the employers of the maids, a businesswoman and her daughter in their 50s and 30s.

He said the two women have been remanded for three days from yesterday until Dec 21, for the case to be investigated under Section 13 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (ATIPSOM).
