Four States Record Over 15,000 Flood Evacuees As Of This Morning

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 19 (Bernama) -- A total of 15,358 flood evacuees remain housed in temporary relief centres (PPS) across Pahang, Terengganu, Johor and Kelantan this morning.

In PAHANG, the numbers have continued to rise, with 13,472 individuals from 4,437 families now sheltering at 81 PPS this morning, compared to 10,956 from 3,635 families recorded at 78 PPS yesterday afternoon.

According to the Department of Social Welfare's (JKM) Infobencana application, the breakdown is as follows: Kuantan has 11,123 individuals at 46 PPS; Maran (912 at 11 PPS); Rompin (454 at eight PPS); Pekan (926 at 11 PPS); Jerantut (52 at four PPS); and Lipis (five at one PPS).

In TERENGGANU, the State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that the evacuee count has increased to 1,344 individuals from 366 families as of 8 am today, compared to 902 from 248 families yesterday afternoon.

Kemaman district recorded the highest number with 637 individuals from 171 families across 12 PPS, followed by Dungun with 247 from 72 families at two PPS. In Hulu Terengganu, 18 individuals from five families are at a single PPS.

Based on publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my, the water levels at seven river stations have exceeded the alert stage. These are Sungai Cherol at Jambatan Ban Ho, Kemaman; Sungai Besut at Jambatan Keruak, Besut; Sungai Dungun at Jambatan Jerangau, Dungun; Sungai Kemaman at the Paman Pump House, Kemaman; Sungai Nerus at Kampung Bukit and Sungai Nerus at Kampung Bukit (F1), Setiu; and Sungai Tersat at Kampung Sekayu (F1), Hulu Terengganu.

In JOHOR, State Disaster Management Committee chairman, Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman, said in a statement that the number of evacuees remains at 356 individuals from 93 families as of 8 am. 

They are sheltered in three PPS in Mersing: SK Pusat Air Tawar, 148 individuals from 36 families; SJKC Chiao Ching, 139 individuals from 44 families; and SK Labong, 69 individuals from 13 families.

Four rivers are at warning levels: Sungai Muar at Kampung Awat, Segamat, with a reading of 19.86m; Sungai Muar at Buloh Kasap, Segamat (8.41m); Sungai Lenik at Ladang Cha’ah, Batu Pahat (6.64m); and Sungai Kampung Labong in Mersing, recording 1.82m.

In KELANTAN, the JKM Infobencana application reported that four PPS have been opened across two districts today, involving the relocation of 186 individuals from 49 families. In Gua Musang, one PPS is open housing 148 individuals from 35 families, while in Kuala Krai, 38 individuals from 14 families are sheltering across three PPS.
