BANGKOK, Dec 15 (Bernama) -- The following are brief updates on Malaysian athletes in action at the SEA Games Thailand 2025 today:
ARCHERY
Defending champion Mohd Juwaidi Mazuki booked his place in the men’s individual compound final after a composed and consistent showing at the Sports Authority of Thailand here, today.
Mohd Juwaidi began his campaign with a bye in the round of 16 before edging teammate Muhammad Aiman Syafiq Mohd Tariki 147(10+)-147(10) on a tense tiebreak in the quarterfinals.
He then carried his momentum into the semifinals, where he defeated Indonesia’s Rinaldi Sostar 145-142 to seal a spot in the gold medal match on Thursday (Dec 18), keeping alive his chance to defend the title he won at the 2021 edition in Vietnam, the last time archery was contested at the Games.
In the women’s compound, Ng Sui Kim progressed to the bronze medal match after a mixed day.
She first defeated compatriot Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh 143-141 in the round of 16, then overcame Laos’ Kamkeo Phone 145-135 in the quarterfinals before falling 143-145 to Indonesia’s Nurisa Dian in the semifinals.
Sui Kim is scheduled to compete in the bronze medal playoff on Thursday.
WEIGHTLIFTING
National weightlifter Muhammad Erry Hidayat delivered a commendable performance to clinch the silver medal in the men’s 65 kilogramme (kg) final at the Chonburi cluster today.
Muhammad Erry amassed a total lift of 336kg after posting 149kg in the snatch and 187kg in the clean and jerk to finish second behind Indonesia’s Rizki Juniansyah who dominated the field with 365kg.
Thailand’s Natthawut Suepsan completed the podium with 335kg.
In the women’s 63kg final, compatriot Nur Syazwani Radzi placed fifth overall with a combined lift of 204kg, recording 91kg in the snatch and 113kg in the clean and jerk.
Gold went to the Philippines’ Elreen Ann Ando on 229kg, followed by Vietnam’s Thi Thuy Tien Nguyen (219kg) and Thailand’s Thanaporn Saetia with 218kg.
CRICKET
Fresh after winning the men’s T20 gold last Saturday, Malaysia continued their momentum as they kicked off the men’s T10 campaign winning against the Philippines by four wickets at the Asian Institute of Technology.
The champions of the round robin format for men’s T10 event will win gold medal.
Meanwhile, the national women’s squad opened their campaign in the T20 event after beating Indonesia by 18 runs in Group B action at the TerdThai Cricket Grounds.
Malaysia, who sit at the top of the group, will next play the Philippines in the last group tie this Wednesday.
E-SPORTS
Malaysia will determine the gold medal againt the Philippines for the Mobile Legends Bang Bang finals at the Sala Phra Kieo, Chulalongkorn University.
Malaysia stormed to the final following a 3-1 victory over Myanmar in the semi-finals and 3-0 win against Thailand in the quarter-finals, also held today.
ROAD CYCLING
Two Malaysian cyclists - Kee Zhe Yie and Muhammad Nur Aiman Rosli - failed to bring home any medal from the men’s individual time trial in Nakhon Nayok.
Zhe Yie clocked 1 hour 11 minute and 46 seconds (s) while Muhammad Nur Aiman recorded 1:12:44s to finish eighth and ninth, respectively.
Chawchiangkwang Peerapol nabbed gold for Thailand with 1:07:28s while Phounsavath Ariya won silver with 1:07:53s and Cahyadi Aiman from Indonesia completed the podium finish with bronze (1:08:18s).
