KOTA KINABALU, Dec 15 (Bernama) -- The Sabah government will hold a state-level Christmas celebration from tomorrow until Dec 19 at Padang Merdeka here.

Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Ewon Benedick, who is also chairman of the celebration’s main committee, said that for the first time, the Christmas celebration - previously organised by Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) in collaboration with the Sabah Council of Churches (SCC) - has been elevated to a state-level event.

“This event reflects the openness and commitment of the Sabah government under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor in supporting the celebration of religious festivals.

“The celebration will be officiated by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sabah, Tun Musa Aman, on Dec 16, while the closing ceremony will be officiated by the Chief Minister on Dec 19, 2025,” he said in a statement here today.

Ewon said the theme of this year’s celebration, ‘Pengharapan Damai Dalam Kasih’ (Hope for Peace in Love), emphasises the values of unity, harmony, togetherness and mutual respect among Sabahans of all races and religions, in line with the Sabah First vision.

“In addition to various stage performances, there will also be a ‘Jamuan Rakyat’ (people’s feast) involving 100 entrepreneurs from among local hawkers, who will supply a variety of dishes as part of the government’s support for micro and small enterprises,” he said.

In this regard, Ewon invited all Sabahans to attend and add meaning and significance to the celebration.

More information on the programme can be obtained through Ewon’s official social media platforms, as well as the channels of the Sabah Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Transport, DBKK and the Sabah Information Department.
