KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 (Bernama) -- Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif today shared her vision to establish a network of Green Connectors that will link major landmarks in the city, enabling residents and visitors to walk seamlessly between destinations.

Maimunah said the initiative would also help realise the popular ‘15-minute city concept’ while strengthening the city’s identity as a sustainable and people-friendly hub.

“I would like to get the collaboration and the support from the community, so that we can connect and walk from KLCC to TRX, Merdeka 118 and then to Dataran Merdeka seamlessly through other Green Connectors, that's my dream and I hope you can make my dream come true together,” she said.

She said this when launching the third edition of Sustainable September at the KLCC Park here today.

Under the theme ‘Liveable and Lovable Precinct’, the launch was marked by a series of engaging community activities at KLCC Park, including a morning fun run, a tree planting ceremony, and an energising Zumba session also joined by KLCC Holdings Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri Mohd Salem Kailany.

Maimunah also stressed that collaboration from all stakeholders, the public sector, private partners and the community  is essential to create a Kuala Lumpur that is not only clean and green, but also liveable and lovable.

She also urged the community to play a greater role in reducing waste, as Kuala Lumpur spends up to RM260 million annually to maintain its cleanliness, emphasising that sustainable waste management is crucial in shaping the city as a liveable and lovable city.

“If I can reduce half of the waste generation to recycling or upcycling, I have another RM 130 million more to improve the infrastructure and public spaces...my colleagues from ASEAN also said, your city is very clean and green and I will be very happy if the standard is clean and I can reduce the cost of doing business,” she said.

She added that the government is also looking into ways of assisting the B40 community, particularly hawkers and roadside traders, by upgrading complexes and business areas to make them cleaner and more appealing.

“How can we make it more loveable? And how can we make it whereny people would love to go to street hawkers premises that is clean with also good quality of food, and I need your help. I need the ideas and I want to see all these B40 people and traders along the road,” she said.
