KUALA TERENGGANU, July 10 (Bernama) -- Fresh items like old ginger, bird’s eye chillies and key limes were among the bestsellers at the MADANI Sales held in conjunction with the Terengganu 2025 MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) taking place at the Pasar Kedai Payang grounds today.
According to Terengganu MADANI Sales assistant manager Ho Bee Ying, 20 kilogrammes (kg) of each item were brought in for the 8 am session, but everything was sold out within two hours.
“This afternoon, we’ll be restocking another 15 kg of each item. The demand took us by surprise. We’ll definitely need to prepare more stock for the upcoming days,” she told Bernama.
A check by Bernama found that the fresh red chillies were offered at RM9.39 per kg, compared to the usual RM12.99. Ginger was sold at RM5.49 (down from RM7.49), while key limes were priced at RM4.89 per kg (normally RM6.89).
Although fresh chicken and meat were not available this time, essential household items were still offered at discounts of 10 to 30 per cent.
Among the discounted items were a 2kg pack of Milo sold at RM13.99, Maggi instant noodles (RM3.89), grade A eggs (RM10.49), grade C eggs (RM6.49), and Drypers and Diapex baby diapers (RM13.99).
A visitor, Ruzilla Ahmad, 59, from Marang, said the initiative was timely and helpful, especially amid rising prices.
“I always look forward to the MADANI Sales. A tray of eggs or Milo can be costly outside, but here it’s really worth it,” she said.
The three-day programme which runs until Saturday, is expected to attract 25,000 visitors, offering a wide range of services and activities for the public.
Themed ‘MADANI Development, Prosperous People’, the event is organised by the Prime Minister's Department (JPM) through the Performance Acceleration Coordination Unit (PACU), in partnership with the Ministry of Works (KKR) and the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of JPM.
