MELAKA, July 9 (Bernama) -- Melaka police have busted a syndicate involved in an online part-time job scam following the arrest of three Chinese nationals during a raid at a residence in Taman Pandan Malim here on Monday (July 7).
State police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the raid, conducted by a team from the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) of the Melaka contingent police headquarters (IPK), led to the arrest of three suspects, aged between 32 and 38, who are believed to be involved in the scam.
“It is believed that they have been active in these activities since March this year, targeting Chinese nationals.
“Police seized one laptop and three mobile phones of various brands during the operation, and investigations also revealed that all suspects did not possess valid travel documents,” he said in a statement today.
Dzulkhairi said all the suspects have been remanded for four days from July 8 to 11 to assist in investigations under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years, whipping, and a fine upon conviction. They are also being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for immigration offences.
He also reminded the public to remain vigilant and not to be easily deceived by online job offers that promise high returns in a short period.
