JOHOR BAHRU,  July 9 (Bernama) -- The Sungai Pemandi Flood Mitigation Project (RTB) in Kota Tinggi, scheduled for completion by April 26 next year, is expected to benefit around 2,000 residents in Taman Aman and Taman Mawai.

State Works, Transport, Infrastructure and Communication Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said the project, stretching 2.7 kilometres along Sungai Pemandi, has reached 58 per cent progress.

"The project is one of 11 high-impact initiatives monitored by a special committee led together with the secretary-general of the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), Datuk Mad Zaidi Mohd Karli.

“It involves the acquisition of 17 land lots, which remains a key challenge in flood mitigation projects,” he said in a statement.

The RM42 million project, which began in July 2023, includes the construction of a flood wall, sandfill mattress, gabion, bridge replacement, and a pump system.

RTB initiatives in Johor are part of the government’s broader efforts to reduce flood risks in vulnerable areas through strategic and targeted flood control measures.

So far, 10 major RTB projects are underway in Johor, covering districts like Segamat, Tangkak, Batu Pahat, and Kota Tinggi. These include the RM1.18 billion Batu Pahat RTB and Sungai Johor RTB (RM2.24 billion).
