KUANTAN, July 3 (Bernama) -- Police have received three reports related to the theft of slot card components from telecommunication transmission towers in Raub yesterday.
Raub district police chief Supt Mohd Shahril Abdul Rahman said the reports were lodged by telecommunications providers U Mobile, Maxis and CelcomDigi.
“The missing slot cards caused service disruptions as they are essential for processing internet data through the respective telecom networks,” he said in a statement today.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
Mohd Shahril also urged members of the public with information regarding the incident to contact the Raub district police headquarters operations room at 09-3552222.
Meanwhile, State Communications and Multimedia, Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Committee chairman Fadzli Mohamad Kamal said CelcomDigi is actively working to restore network services by replacing the damaged equipment and upgrading the affected towers.
“As of 5.30 pm, network restoration has been completed at towers located in Pekan Dong, Kampung Gesing, Kampung Chendra Chincin, Kampung Tanjung Putus, Kampung Bukit Pampong, Kampung Jelu, Kampung Gali Hilir, Kampung Hulu Temau, and Sungai Ruan,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Yesterday, Fadzli was reported as saying that a communication tower belonging to CelcomDigi in Dong, Raub, was damaged due to vandalism, which affected network services in surrounding areas.
He said preliminary investigations by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) revealed that the tower serves as a collector, connecting multiple other transmission towers.
