PUTRAJAYA, July 2 (Bernama) -- The Communications Ministry is coordinating efforts to ensure that funding for the Malaysian Media Council (MMC) is provided soon, said Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

He said a meeting would also be held with the 12 members of the MMC founding board soon to discuss matters related to the council.

“I have held an online meeting with members of the founding board and we will follow up with a physical meeting.

“As some of the representatives are not based in the Klang Valley, we will find a suitable time to invite everyone,” he told a press conference here today.

Previously, Fahmi had announced that the MMC founding board comprises 12 members, with four representatives from each category: media companies, media associations, media practitioners, and independent media practitioners, as well as non-media members.

In another development, Fahmi said the Cabinet was today briefed on the implementation of Op Kesan 4.0, which is being carried out in line with the revised Sales Tax rate and expanded scope of the Service Tax, which took effect yesterday.

The operation, under the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN), aims to ensure that profiteering does not occur as a result of the expanded SST scope.

As such, he urged members of the public to lodge complaints if any business premises are found to be raising prices unreasonably.

“Insya-Allah, KPDN will swiftly identify such premises and take appropriate action,” he said.

Meanwhile, Fahmi said the Health Ministry (MOH) has been asked to remain vigilant over the current hot weather brought on by the Southwest Monsoon, which began on May 10 and is expected to continue until September.

He said the MOH has also been requested to issue health advisories, including on the suitability of outdoor activities, in line with the prevailing weather conditions.

“The Cabinet has taken note of several hot weather warnings issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) in relation to the Southwest Monsoon.

“As such, the public is advised to stay informed of any notices or announcements issued by MetMalaysia,” he added.
