ALOR SETAR, July 1 (Bernama) -- The recidivism rate of inmates participating in the community rehabilitation programme (PDK) in 2024 was 0.28 per cent, indicating significant success in the implementation of the programme.
Prisons Department deputy commissioner-general (Rehabilitation) Ahmad Faudzi Awang said that the rate is much lower compared to inmates who do not participate in the programme, which is around 11.6 per cent.
"…it is our and the government's aspiration to see and enhance the effectiveness of this PDK, and to successfully implement the programme. We need close cooperation from the community, especially the country's industry players, to provide job opportunities for our prospects.
"So far, a total of 689 industry players have registered to collaborate with the Prisons Department nationwide under the PDK... we expect this number to increase by the end of this year," he said after the handover of duties ceremony of the Kedah Prisons director at the Pokok Sena Prison multipurpose hall here today.
At the event, Prisons Department deputy commissioner C. Charin Promwichit was appointed as the new director of Kedah State Prison, replacing deputy commissioner Rahmat Abdul Rani, who has been appointed as the director of Prisons Professionalism Development, effective today.
Ahmad Faudzi also said that so far, more than 7,500 job opportunities have been provided by the industry, covering several key sectors including services, trade, hospitality and agriculture.
"Looking at this response, we are targeting the number of job opportunities to increase to 10,000 by the end of this year compared to the initial target of 8,500. Many other industry players are interested in collaborating with us, so that target is achievable," he added.
