Melaka Offers Fee Relief To Petty Traders Hit By Storm

MELAKA, June 30 (Bernama) — The Historic Melaka City Council (MBMB) is offering a special incentive in the form of a three-month exemption from business licence fees to 1,300 petty traders under 10 main organisers following a recent storm incident.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the measure will be implemented when they apply for the renewal of their MBMB licences later.

He said this involves 500 petty traders at Jonker Walk, Uptown Klebang Walk (280), Uptown Pahlawan Walk (195 ), Medan Samudera, Floating Market and Vintage Night Market (80 each).

“In addition, Tun Teja and Harbour Street Market (50 petty traders each), Tun Mamat Kampung Morten (40), and Taman Bunga Merdeka (30).

“The state government is very concerned about the difficulties faced by the traders and hopes this step will ease their financial burden and help revive the business operations affected,” he said in a Facebook post here tonight.

He added that in the spirit of solidarity, the state government also called on all organisers involved to consider offering additional incentives at their respective levels, such as a one-month site rental discount or any other form of appropriate assistance.

“We stand together through hardship and ease. This is the caring Melaka that always puts the people first,” he said.
