KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 (Bernama) -- Hyrax Oil Sdn Bhd, a leading Malaysian producer of lubricants and transformer oils, has been appointed the sole distributor of ester-based transformer oils by Ergon Oil (Singapore) Pte Ltd, a regional subsidiary of United States-based specialty oil firm Ergon Inc.
Hyrax Oil Group executive chairman Datuk Hazimah Zainuddin said the partnership centres on ester-based transformer oils, which are valued for their fire safety, biodegradability and long-term reliability.
"Under this agreement, Hyrax Oil is honoured to be appointed the sole distributor for Ergon’s HyVolt Synthetic Ester and HyVolt Natural Ester products in Malaysia, with plans to expand into selected ASEAN and African markets.
"Our ambition is bold yet focused — to capture as much of the ester-based transformer oil market in Malaysia and replicate this success regionally," she said at the signing ceremony here today.
Hazimah said the company’s confidence rests on three pillars: the proven performance of Ergon’s products, Hyrax Oil’s distribution network spanning more than 40 countries, and over three decades of experience serving the energy, utility and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) sectors.
By combining Ergon’s product excellence with Hyrax Oil’s market insights, she said, the company is well-positioned to serve clients such as Tenaga Nasional Bhd, Sarawak Energy Bhd, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd, as well as transformer manufacturers including Malaysia Transformer Manufacturer (MTM) Sdn Bhd and SGB MY Sdn Bhd.
"We are excited to embark on this journey together — to create value for our customers and to set new benchmarks for product excellence in Malaysia and beyond, in alignment with our national ESG commitments and global sustainable development goals," she said.
The signing ceremony, held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), was witnessed by Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican.
Ergon Oil (Singapore) Pte Ltd vice president of sales – Asia, Juan Acosta, said the partnership goes beyond supply, focusing on supporting Malaysia’s energy transition, building local capabilities and delivering technical support.
He noted that what makes this partnership even more promising is the potential it holds beyond Malaysia, as the company sees opportunities to explore future collaborations in other regions.
"For example, Africa — where Hyrax Oil’s long-standing presence, including their joint venture in South Africa, positions them well to serve key regional markets such as the Southern African Development Community, East African Community, and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa," he said in his opening remarks.
