KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 (Bernama) -- There are three key areas where Malaysia and Taiwan cooperation can go even further, namely artificial intelligence (AI), green sustainability, and smart healthcare, said Taiwan External Trade Development Council (Taitra) president and chief executive officer Simon Wang.

He said that Malaysia continues to expand its role as a digital powerhouse, with data centre growth and infrastructure gaining international recognition.

“Together, we are advancing smart systems -- from factory automation to AI platforms -- through deep expertise and shared ambition,” he said in his opening remarks at the Taiwan Expo 2025 held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today.

Wang said that for green sustainability, Taiwanese companies are bringing practical solutions in energy efficiency and low-carbon technology.

He said that alongside Malaysia’s forward-looking environmental goals, they can help industries move toward a greener, more competitive future.

“As for smart healthcare, with innovation in diagnostics, medical devices, and digital health, Taiwan is ready to work closely with Malaysian partners to co-develop solutions that improve lives across the region.

“Together, we are building a future where technology empowers progress, and partnerships turn ideas into impact,” he said.

The Taiwan Expo 2025 is part of the flagship global exhibition platform designed to showcase the best of Taiwan’s innovation and manufacturing capabilities.

Organised by the Taiwan International Trade Administration and Taitra, the exposition, which brings together over 200 leading Taiwanese companies, starts today and runs until June 25, 2025.

This year’s event is the largest yet, and the five main themes of the exhibition echo the industrial trends in Malaysia, including smart manufacturing, health and wellness, sustainability, as well as culture and tourism.

This year’s event marks the eighth iteration of Taiwan Expo in Malaysia, with AI innovation as the primary highlight of the event.

A total of 32 leading AI firms from Taiwan are showcasing their range of products and solutions, including smart manufacturing, medical technologies, cybersecurity, finance, and educational services.

One of the participants in AI is Freedom Systems Inc, a company that features customised information outsourcing services tailored to the developmental needs of its clients.

A representative from Freedom Systems said that, as a global information technology (IT) solutions provider, the company is exploring opportunities to expand into Malaysia by establishing a local engineering team and securing new clients.

“Malaysia presents strong potential, particularly in sectors aligned with its outsourcing and digital optimisation services.

“We do not have clients in Malaysia yet, but we are active in Thailand, Japan, Singapore, Europe and the United States. We hope to connect with potential partners here,” he told Bernama.

He said that the company is targeting three key sectors, namely manufacturing, biotechnology and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

“Malaysia has a vibrant manufacturing base, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor Bahru. Biotech (biotechnology) firms also offer opportunities, as they are constantly seeking cost-effective digital tools to improve efficiency,” he said.

He said that for SMEs, Freedom Systems offers end-to-end IT outsourcing solutions to address talent gaps.

“Many SMEs can’t afford to hire in-house IT staff, so we provide scalable support without the high overhead,” he added.
