KUALA LUMPUR, June 19 (Bernama) -- Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) is ready to play a role in resolving energy supply issues while simultaneously addressing sustainability challenges.

President and group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Aziz said the three-day Energy Asia 2025 conference, which concluded yesterday, opened up opportunities for cross-industry collaborations in delivering practical and scalable solutions.

“Energy Asia has been viewed as a neutral platform with no hidden agenda -- focusing only on energy supply while tackling sustainability issues and challenges,” he said in an exclusive interview with Bernama TV during the conference yesterday.

He said the sustainability agenda is quite challenging and has been prioritised, as it relates to the continuity of energy supply, especially amid geopolitical instability and various other uncertainties.

Tengku Muhammad Taufik said the challenges related to energy supply are not obstacles that can be tackled by any single entity, industry, or sector.

He mentioned the recent initiative implemented under Malaysia’s ASEAN chairmanship this year, where renewable energy from Vietnam would be exported through Malaysia for possible supply to both Malaysia and Singapore which are demand centres.

“This approach, involving collaboration among three countries, can help address -- and possibly solve --the issue of renewable energy source is not located where the demand centres are.

“There will be, I admit, huge investments involved, but if approached correctly and with uniformity and policy, I believe Asia, and ASEAN especially, can once again shine with realistic solutions without needing to wait for too long,” he said.

The Energy Asia 2025 conference, themed “Delivering Asia’s Energy Transition”, brought together more than 4,000 delegates from nearly 40 industries across over 60 countries. The biennial event will return as Energy Asia 2027, scheduled to take place from June 2-4, 2027.
