Trump Leaving G7 Summit Early Due to Middle East Situation

WASHINGTON, June 17 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- United States (US) President Donald Trump will return to Washington later Monday, cutting short his participation in the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Canada due to rising tensions in the Middle East, Anadolu Ajansi quoted the White House.

“President Trump had a great day at the G7, even signing a major trade deal with the United Kingdom and Prime Minister Keir Starmer,” White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said on X.

“Much was accomplished, but because of what’s going on in the Middle East, President Trump will be leaving tonight after dinner with Heads of State,” she added.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said he regretted leaving early but called the situation “big stuff.”

“I wish I could stay for tomorrow, but they understand this. You probably see what I see, and I have to be back as soon as I can,” he said.

Fox News reported that Trump had instructed the National Security Council to prepare the White House situation room for a security briefing.

Earlier, Trump took to his Truth Social platform to urge civilians to evacuate Tehran immediately, amid the ongoing escalation between Israel and Iran.

Tensions have escalated sharply since Friday, when Israel launched coordinated airstrikes and drone attacks on multiple sites across Iran, including military and nuclear facilities, prompting retaliatory strikes from Tehran.
