KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) is set to pay tribute to two of the most iconic voices in American music history, Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland, in a special concert at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP), here on July 12.

Themed ‘Where Every Beat Tells a Story, the performance promises an evening filled with timeless classics that defined the golden era of Hollywood.

“This concert will witness the MPO merging classic pop and symphonic twists, giving audiences musical richness and a whole new feel while capturing the spirit of Hollywood’s golden age,” MPO said in a statement.

Audiences can look forward to favourites such as  Sinatra’s ‘Luck Be A Lady’, ‘Three Coins in a Fountain’ and ‘I Could Write a Book’, alongside Garland’s ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’, ‘The Man That Got Away’ and ‘I Got Rhythm’.

MPO also said the concert will be conducted by Richard Balcombe and will showcase orchestral arrangements infused with classic pop influences to recreate the magic of mid-20th-century American music.

Joining the MPO on stage are acclaimed British vocalists Graham Bickley and Katie Birtill, both of whom impressed local audiences during last year’s MPO tribute to the Bee Gees.

Tickets are priced from RM229 to RM499, with suite options available. More details can be found at www.mpo.com.my.
