WASHINGTON, May 20 (Bernama-TASS) -- Russia and Ukraine will soon begin talks on ceasing fire and ending the conflict, United States (US) President Donald Trump stated after his phone call with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, Russian News Agency (TASS) reported.

"Just completed my two hour call with President Vladimir Putin of Russia. I believe it went very well. Russia and Ukraine will immediately start negotiations towards a Ceasefire and, more importantly, an END to the War," he wrote on his Truth Social platform.

"The conditions for that will be negotiated between the two parties, as it can only be, because they know details of a negotiation that nobody else would be aware of. The tone and spirit of the conversation were excellent," he added.

Putin told reporters earlier that his phone call with Trump lasted for more than two hours and was quite frank and substantive.

This was their third phone call since the beginning of the year. Their previous call took place on March 18 and focused primarily on bilateral relations and the Ukrainian settlement.

Back then, Putin supported Trump’s idea of a 30-day moratorium on strikes on energy facilities.

During their call on February 12, Putin and Trump also discussed Ukraine-related problems and bilateral relations and agreed to continue contacts.
