KUALA LUMPUR, May 1 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) was honoured with the Best Media (Agency) Award at the National Labour Day 2025 celebration held at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, today.

The award was presented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to Bernama chief executive officer, Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin.

This accolade is one of the two new award categories introduced by the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA), alongside the Public Sector National Worker Icon Award (Senior Management).

The Best Media (Agency) Award is given in recognition of the outstanding role played by the media agency in disseminating accurate, timely, and trustworthy information to the public across various news platforms.

Meanwhile, Nur-ul Afida described the award as a great morale booster for all Bernama staff to continue striving with dedication, in line with the agency’s long-standing motto - Trusted Source of News.

“I hope everyone at Bernama will remain committed to upholding the values behind our slogan, ensuring the agency stays relevant and continues to excel as envisioned by the Prime Minister for the nation's workforce.

“I also want all Bernama personnel, especially our journalists, photographers, and videographers, to continue adhering to the journalism code of ethics that has guided the agency for so long,” she said.

While expressing her gratitude for the award, Nur-ul Afida said this was the first time Bernama had received such recognition in its 57-year history as Malaysia’s official news agency.

“This award is the result of the collective efforts of the entire Bernama team, especially the Editorial Department.

“Alhamdulillah, on this special day, the first of May, in conjunction with Labour Day and for the first time ever, the media is also being honoured with a dedicated award category at the National Labour Day celebration organised by the Ministry of Human Resources,” she added.

Commenting on the Prime Minister’s emphasis on teamwork, Nur-ul Afida said the value has long been a core part of the news agency’s work culture, one that has consistently proven its effectiveness in the successful execution of various national-level assignments.

“Teamwork at Bernama is exceptional, especially when handling major responsibilities. It is this spirit of togetherness that enables us to carry out our duties with excellence,” she said, adding that Bernama has also been appointed as the Official Media and Coordinator of the International Media Centre for the ASEAN Summit 2025.

Also present during the celebration were Bernama deputy editors-in-chief Nasriah Darus (News Service) and Azlina Aziz (Economic News Service), along with a contingent of 50 staff from various departments of the agency.
