KOTA BHARU, April 30 (Bernama) -- Nearly 4,000 technical and vocational education and training (TVET) courses are now being offered through UP_TVET, an admission unit or application portal, which provides entry into 1,624 public and private skills training institutes nationwide.
Skills Development Department (JPK) director for the eastern region Zulkifli Mat Daud said among the most popular courses so far are those related to automotive, welding, culinary arts and fashion, which continue to attract high numbers of applicants.
“The portal offers two application categories, Perdana and Flexi, allowing prospective students to choose between full-time long-term programmes and shorter flexible courses, respectively, that suit their needs and schedules,” he said.
Zulkifli was speaking to reporters after officiating the UP_TVET Roadshow session with guidance and counselling teachers, and TVET educators from schools across Kelantan at the Kota Bharu Industrial Training Institute in Pengkalan Chepa today.
The department is targeting 500,000 visitors to the portal by the end of this year, he added.
To date, more than 100,000 visitors have accessed the platform, with promotional efforts ongoing in states including Sabah, Sarawak and Kelantan.
Zulkifli noted that the graduate employability rate for TVET remains high at an annual rate of over 94 per cent, contributing to the development of a highly skilled and competitive workforce aligned with national goals.
