TAPAH, April 24 (Bernama) -- Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) deputy chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim has called on youths in the Ayer Kuning state constituency to participate in the democratic process by casting their votes in the by-election this Saturday.

He said active youth participation was important as the younger generation would eventually assume the responsibilities of leading the nation.

“If young people adopt an indifferent attitude, we fear it could erode their confidence in and engagement with the political process, even though they are the ones who will eventually lead the nation,” he told reporters at the Ziarah Kasih MADANI programme in Kampung Changkat Petai here today.

Muhammad Kamil, who is also the political secretary to the Finance Minister, said AMK had identified young outstation voters and efforts were underway to convince them to return home to vote.

“We want young voters to understand that this is not just any by-election. It is an opportunity to reject divisive politics and reinforce national unity and a progressive path forward,” he said.

The Ayer Kuning by-election sees a three-cornered fight between Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir, Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Abd Muhaimin Malek and Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) candidate Bawani KS.

On the significant number of young candidates who won in the recent PKR division elections, especially in Perak, Muhammad Kamil said the party’s leadership structure clearly reflects openness to the voices of the younger generation.
