Tan Chong Motor, SGM Wuling To Launch TQ WULING In Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 (Bernama) -- Tan Chong Motor Holdings Bhd has inked an investment commitment agreement with SAIC GM Wuling Automobile Co Ltd (SGM Wuling) to introduce the TQ WULING car brand to Malaysia.

SGM Wuling is a leading Chinese automotive company known for producing electric cars and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles with internal combustion models, along with versatile people-movers and commercial vehicles.

The partnership was formalised by Tan Chong Motor Group chief executive officer Daniel Ho, while SGM Wuling was represented by PT SGMW Motor Indonesia president Tang Wensheng and its commercial director of overseas business and engineering centre, Sun Dazhi.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Malaysia’s Transport Minister, Anthony Loke.

Ho said the first model to be assembled under the TQ WULING brand will be the TQ WULING Bingo, a stylish compact hatchback that is expected to be one of the most affordable electric vehicles (EVs) in Malaysia.

"Scheduled for launch in the fourth quarter of 2025, the Bingo is tailored for urban drivers, offering a smart, efficient, and accessible mobility solution.

"The TQ WULING Bingo is targeted to be priced below RM100,000, and we believe it can offer a competitive and affordable EV solution to Malaysian consumers," he said in his speech here today.

Meanwhile, Tang said SGM Wuling’s cumulative production had reached 30 million units, with Wuling cars sold in over 60 countries worldwide as of last year.

He said the company has set up production facilities in Malaysia, Indonesia, India and Vietnam to support the global development of the Wuling brand.

“We believe that with the strong support from the Malaysian government, SGM Wuling and Tan Chong Motor Group will surely be able to fully leverage our advantages in either EV products and core technologies, or local chains and business innovation," he said.
