Chinese Premier Extends Condolences Over Death Of Former Bangladeshi PM Khaleda Zia

BEIJING, Dec 30 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Tuesday extended condolences over the death of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, Xinhua reported.

In a message to the Bangladeshi interim government's Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, Li conveyed his sincere sympathies to the Bangladeshi side and the family of Zia.

Noting that Zia was a senior Bangladeshi stateswoman and an old friend of the Chinese people, Li said that during her tenure as prime minister, China and Bangladesh established a long-term friendly, equal, and mutually beneficial comprehensive cooperative partnership, with bilateral relations making significant progress.

China appreciates her important contributions to the development of China-Bangladesh relations, Li added.

Li said China values its traditional friendship with Bangladesh, attaches great importance to the development of China-Bangladesh relations, and is willing to work with Bangladesh to continuously elevate bilateral relations and bring more benefits to the two countries and their peoples.

Also on Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi sent a message of condolence to Touhid Hossain, adviser for foreign affairs of the interim government of Bangladesh.
