Israel Extends Detention Of Palestinian Journalist Nasser Laham

RAMALLAH, July 8 (Bernama-WAFA) -- The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs reported that Israeli authorities have extended the detention of Palestinian journalist Nasser Laham, referring his case to the Israeli Ofer Military Court until next Thursday.

According to the Palestine News and Info Agency (WAFA), Laham, a prominent journalist, was detained early Monday morning during an Israeli army raid on his home in the town of Doha, near Bethlehem.

During the raid, soldiers vandalised the contents of his house, causing extensive damage.

The number of Palestinian journalists currently placed under administrative detention—without charge or trial—by Israeli authorities has risen to 22, out of a total of 55 journalists held in Israeli prisons. Of these, 49 journalists have been detained since the start of the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

Israeli forces continue to target Palestinian journalists, often accusing them of “incitement” on social media, a charge that has become a key pretext for the suppression of free speech and press freedom.

The majority of those arrested on the grounds of "incitement," and that the occupation was unable to file charges against them, were later placed under  administrative detention.

Palestinian journalists held in Israeli custody endure the same systematic abuses as other Palestinian prisoners, including torture, severe beatings, starvation, and medical neglect, as well as routine humiliation and mistreatment. They are held under harsh, degrading conditions.
