More than 4,000 Thai medical workers infected with COVID-19 so far

BANGKOK, Nov 24 -- More than 4,000 medical workers including doctors have been infected with COVID-19 since the pandemic began in the kingdom in 2020, a senior public health official said.

Hazard Communication Director of the Department of Disease Control Dr Sumanee Wacharasin said data showed since February 15, 2020 a total of 4,270 frontliners in the fight against COVID-19 had tested positive for COVID-19.

“Of the number, a total of 198 doctors and 34 medical students were infected while many medical workers placed under quarantine after being exposes to those tested positive for the virus,” she said at COVID-19 daily briefing here today.

Meanwhile, Dr Sumanee said the COVID-19 situation in the kingdom continued to improve with new cases on the decline.

Over the last 24 hours, Thailand recorded 5,857 new COVID-19 cases and 55 fatalities, bringing the total infections to 2,081,992 in the kingdom to date.

Thailand recorded more than 20,000 COVID-19 cases and more than 200 fatalities at its peak in August, 2021.
