BANGKOK, Nov 24 -- The Yommarat community in Bangkok's Ratchathewi district heaved a sigh of relief on Wednesday when the Malaysian Embassy handed over grocery boxes worth more than 100,000 baht (RM12,554).

Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand Datuk Jojie Samuel handed over 175 grocery boxes to Yommarat community leader Sombbon Taengnoi, in a simple ceremony to help families in the commune impacted by COVID-19 pandemic..

The boxes contained items such as washable face masks, groceries and essentials such as rice, cooking oil, canned food and toiletries.

Socially responsible leading marketer of everyday basic innerwear and activewear apparel company Hanesbrands ROH Asia Ltd donated 3000 washable face masks to the embassy to support the outreach programme.

Sombbon thanked the Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok for helping the families who were affected by COVID-19.

“The grocery box, a timely relief for those who had lost their jobs and the needy in the community,” she told Bernama.

Meanwhile, Jojie said; “The embassy is grateful to be able to give back to the community. We believe that the real meaning in life never comes from what you get, it comes from what you give”.

It is the embassy's third visit to the community. In May this year, the embassy distributed grocery boxes to underprivilege children and poor families as well as the elderlies and single mothers in June.
