NARATHIWAT (Southern Thailand), Oct 4 -- Four militants wanted by the authorities were found dead at a mangrove forest in Bacho, Narathiwat, after six days of being surrounded.
Spokesman for Region 4 Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC), Col Kiattisak Neewong, said a shootout was also reported during the siege, with a security member killed in a shooting incident last Saturday.
"In the early hours of Sunday morning, there was a shooting incident that continued until late in the afternoon. When the situation calmed down, security forces found four bodies in the forest.
“Three rifles and a pistol as well as two grenades were found near the body," he said at a press conference, here, today.
He added that all the militants had criminal records and several outstanding arrest warrants.
The bodies of the four militants were claimed by family members after a post-mortem and were buried at the Kg Duku Surau Bacho Cemetery.
